The North Platte First Nationals American Legion baseball teams are hosting their annual Great Plains Health Junior Senior Tournament at Bill Wood Field this week.
The tournament begins Thursday and runs through Sunday. The Juniors will be hosting Lincoln East B, Gretna and Overton while the senior teams competing will be Laramie, Wyo., Ogallala and Edgar.
The Juniors tournament runs Thursday through Saturday with the North Platte Juniors playing Lincoln East B and Overton once and Gretna twice that will count toward their Cornhusker League games. The Seniors tournament will be a round robin format with the top two teams playing each other for the championship on Sunday and the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds playing for third and fourth.
The North Platte Seniors come into the tournament riding a seven-game winning streak after going 5-0 and winning the championship of the Bubba’s Bash Tourney in Canon City, Colo. and then beating Scottsbluff in a home doubleheader on Tuesday. The First Nationals Seniors are currently 17-10 on the season.
In the Seniors tournament Laramie, Wyo. is currently 10-15-1 and have lost four of their last five games. Ogallala and Edgar are both young teams and haven’t played as many games this season. Ogallala is currently 5-6 and Edgar is 2-8.
