UNK Adds Water Bottle Filling Stations on Campus

UNKKEARNEY, Neb. (AP) — The University of Nebraska at Kearney is investing in water bottle filling stations across campus to encourage students to use refillable bottles.

UNK will soon have 12 of the bottle-filling stations across campus, and this fall all students living in dormitories will receive a water bottle when they move in.

The university began installing the bottle-filling stations last year after a group of students visited the University of Colorado’s Boulder campus and noticed them.

UNK’s Jen Kacere says in the first six months after the first bottle-filling stations were installed, the use of disposable plastic water bottles dropped significantly.

The bottle-filling stations cost about $600, and have been paid for with student fees.
