SAN DIEGO (AP) — Police say an 11-year-old boy at a Boy Scout camp in San Diego has died from a gunshot wound.
Officer Matt Tortorella told The Associated Press that at 7:36 a.m. Monday police received a call that a boy had shot himself in the head at the camp on Fiesta Island.
Tortorella says police were investigating and did not know if the shooting was self-inflicted or accidental.
It’s not clear yet where the gun came from or how it got into the boy’s tent.
According to the Boy Scouts of America website, the organization offers a weeklong program in the summer where scouts can camp among sandy dunes, sail and earn merit badges.
