Amid Tornado Cleanup, Pilger to Host Summer Events

pilger-tornado-3PILGER, Neb. (AP) — Not even a tornado will stop Pilger from hosting its annual summer festivities.

The Pilger Days event starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday with a horseshoe tournament, a high school alumni banquet and a chance to visit the Stanton County Historical Society Museum.

Festivities will continue Saturday starting at 9 a.m., with a children’s story time event, a mud volleyball tournament, a lunch and barbeque, and other activities.

Organizers will hold a fundraiser Saturday afternoon with a $1,000 goal. The highest contributor will get to use a Taser on Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger.

The village is also hosting its annual Sweet Corn and Hamburger dinner on Aug. 6. Several 5- and 10-gallon drink containers were lost in the tornado. Containers can be left at the village clerk’s office.
