Syracuse Chief: No. 1 Party School Label Not OK

syracuseSYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — The chancellor of Syracuse University says his college’s ranking as the nation’s top party school is a “wake-up call” for change.

Kent Syverud’s (SIHV’-uh-roodz) message was posted on the university’s website Tuesday and emailed to students, staff and alumni.

He says being designated The Princeton Review’s No. 1 party school isn’t a good thing for a school to be labeled. He says Syracuse alumni, students and faculty like to have a good time, but they didn’t pour their lives into building the university “primarily to create a party.”

The chancellor says Monday’s release of The Princeton Review’s rankings serves as a wake-up call for working on two things: Enhancing awareness of Syracuse’s academic excellence and paying more attention to activities — parties included — that “get in the way of students succeeding.”
