OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska is ranked No. 7 and Creighton is No. 23 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association preseason poll.
Defending national champion Penn State is No. 1 in the poll released Monday, followed by Texas, Stanford, Washington and Southern California. Wisconsin, which lost to Penn State in the national championship match, is ranked just ahead of the Cornhuskers at No. 6.
Nebraska returns five starters from the team that went 26-7 overall last season and was second in the Big Ten with a 16-4 mark.
The Huskers host the AVCA Showcase to open the season, playing 13th-ranked Florida State on Aug. 29 and Stanford on Aug. 30.
Creighton, which returns three starters from its 23-9 team, opens against Lipscomb in the Kansas Invitational on Aug. 29.
