Former Postal Worker in Fremont Sentenced

uspsFREMONT, Neb. (AP) — A judge has sentenced a former U.S. postal worker in Fremont who was accused of misappropriating money paid for stamps and other mail services.

Michael Peitzmeier was given three years of probation and ordered to pay nearly $4,000 in restitution. Peitzmeier pleaded guilty to making false entries and reports of money or securities. Prosecutors dropped a charge of misappropriation in return for Peitzmeier’s plea.

The original indictment says that from 2011 through June 2013, Peitzmeier converted to his use some money that came into his hands while selling stamps and making other transactions for the U.S. Postal Service. Prosecutors also said he falsely reported how much money he’d taken in during the transactions.
