DAVID CITY, Neb. (AP) — More than 1,000 people attended the funeral for Butler County Sheriff Mark Hecker.
The 53-year-old Hecker was remembered Saturday for his positive attitude and his commitment to law enforcement. The funeral was held in the gymnasium of Aquinas Catholic High School in David City.
Hecker died last week after suffering a heart attack on Aug. 8.
Rev. David Palomaki of the Redeemer Lutheran Church says Hecker knew early on that he wanted to be involved in law enforcement and help people get on the right track.
Former Platte County Sheriff Jon Zavodil worked with Hecker. He says Hecker’s upbeat attitude made a difference in many people’s lives.
