Nebraska Priest Accused of Threats Gets Probation

gavel-moreGRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) — A Roman Catholic priest who’d been accused of using a club to threaten his brother has been given two years of probation on reduced charges.

Court records say 53-year-old Michael Wetovick was sentenced on Tuesday in Grand Island. He originally was charged with felony terroristic threats, assault and use of a weapon. Wetovick pleaded no contest and was convicted on two misdemeanor charges. The weapons charge was dismissed.

Hall County authorities say that on June 16, 2013, Wetovick accused his brother of stealing from him, and a fight ensued. Authorities say the brothers have been involved in a long feud.

Wetovick is no longer listed on the parish website as associate pastor at Grand Island’s Blessed Sacrament Church. The diocese website lists several assignments for him in the Nebraska Panhandle.
