Georgia Man Charged with Murder in Son’s Hot Car Death

justin-ross-harrisMARIETTA, Ga. (AP) — A suburban Atlanta man whose 22-month old son died after being left in a hot car for seven hours is going on trial for murder.

A Cobb County grand jury indicted Justin Ross Harris on charges of malice murder, felony murder and cruelty to children Thursday. Harris is also facing charges linked to sending sexually explicit messages to an underage girl. Prosecutors have said Harris sent explicit messages even on the day his son, Cooper, died.

Prosecutors have accused Harris of intentionally leaving Cooper in the car. His attorney, Maddox Kilgore, says the boy’s death was accidental.

Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds says Harris will likely be arraigned in a few weeks and prosecutors will decide whether to seek the death penalty before his arraignment.
