Officers in Omaha Shooting Returning to Duty

officer-involved-shootingOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The three Omaha police officers involved in a shootout that killed a robbery suspect and a crew member of the TV show “Cops” will return to work next week.

Officers Darren Cunningham, Brooks Riley and Jason Wilhelm will report for duty on Monday. The three have been on administrative leave since the Aug. 26 shooting at a fast-food restaurant on Dodge Street.

Police say the officers and two-man filming crew interrupted an armed robbery at the restaurant. Police say the suspect, Cortez Washington, fired what looked and sounded like a handgun at officers, who returned fire. Washington and “Cops” sound operator Bryce Dion were killed.

Police later discovered that Washington had an air gun that shoots plastic pellets.
