Omaha Man Dies After Crashing Into Ford Birth Site

omaha-policeOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Police say a man who crashed into the Gerald Ford birth site in Omaha has died from his injuries.

Investigators say 41-year-old Eric Tennant, of Omaha, was behind the wheel Friday morning when his van crashed into a fence and brick wall entrance of the site that makes former President Ford’s place of birth.

Police say speed and rain-slicked streets were factors in the crash. Police are also investigating whether Tennant had been drinking before the crash.

Investigators say he was not wearing a seat belt.

An employee of the birth site estimated damage to the property at between $30,000 and $50,000.
