Lincoln, Neb. – Sophomore forward Jaycie Johnson scored in the 20th minute to lead Nebraska to a 1-0 victory over Purdue at the Nebraska Soccer Field on Friday evening.
Johnson’s goal, which marked her 10th of the season, came from five yards out as she juked the Boilermaker goalkeeper after receiving a pass from senior Caroline Gray. The assist marked Gray’s third of the season.
Johnson and Gray set the tone for Nebraska’s offense, as the pair combined for four of NU’s six shots on goal. They each had two, while Katie Kraeutner and Mayme Conroy each added one.
Nebraska took a 1-0 lead into the locker room despite being outshot 9-5. In the second half, the Huskers outshot Purdue 6-1 and the defense held strong to preserve the victory. Goalkeeper Kelly Schatz earned two saves en route to her third complete game shutout of the season.
NU improves to 6-7-2 on the season, with a 2-5-2 mark in Big Ten play. Purdue falls to 6-9-1 overall, and holds a 2-8-0 record in conference action following the loss.
The Huskers complete their two-game home stand on Sunday at the Nebraska Soccer Field against Indiana at noon (CT). The game will be streamed on BTN Plus.
