OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — An Omaha street has been named to honor a former Omaha University football player who became the first black man to start at quarterback in professional football.
More than 100 people gathered Wednesday to watch Marlin Briscoe unveil street signs approved by the Omaha City Council. M Street at 20th is called Marlin Briscoe Way. A second sign uses his nickname, “The Magician.”
Briscoe says he’s humbled to see his name displayed in Omaha.
Briscoe graduated from Omaha South High School in 1963. He was drafted by the Denver Broncos in 1968 and won two Super Bowls with the Miami Dolphins during his nine-year career.
