ATKINSON, Neb. (AP) — A 26-year-old northern Nebraska man has been charged with intentional child abuse following the death of his son at an Omaha hospital.

Michael Schroeder, of Atkinson, was arrested on Saturday. He’s accused of abusing his 8-month-old son, Kalium Ebsens. Online records say Schroeder remained in Holt County Jail on Wednesday. Online court records don’t list the name of his attorney.

A court affidavit filed by an Atkinson officer says the boy was taken to West Holt Memorial Hospital the night of Oct. 26 after he’d become unresponsive. The infant then was flown to an Omaha hospital, where he died the morning of Oct. 29. The officer said Schroeder acknowledged bumping the boy’s head a couple of times.
