SIDNEY, Neb. (AP) — A Nebraska teenager who told officers he’d been texting before a fatal collision has been given two years of probation.

The boy’s license was revoked for 19 months. As part of his probation, he must prepare and present a program about the dangers of using cellphones while driving.

The boy was sentenced last week. He’d pleaded no contest to vehicular homicide and texting while driving. The Associated Press generally doesn’t name juveniles accused of crimes.

The collision occurred around 11:30 p.m. on July 31, about four miles east of Sidney on U.S. Highway 30. Authorities say 19-year-old Karman “JoJo” Reichman was fatally injured when her vehicle ran into a vehicle driven by the boy, who was 16 at the time.
