A 22-year-old North Platte man is facing child abuse charges after he allegedly called police to report that he had assaulted a 2-year-old girl.

At around 2:00 p.m., on November 15, officers with the North Platte Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of South Oak on a welfare check.

Police say 22-year-old Johnathan Loving contacted them to report that he had hurt a toddler.

Officers met with Loving who said he had become frustrated with the child and, as a result, slapped her in the face.  Authorities say the child had bruising on her face consistent with being hit.

Following an investigation by police and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services , officers determined that there was probable cause to arrest Loving and charge him with felony child abuse.

Loving was transported to the Lincoln County Detention Center and jailed.

Information on the child’s whereabouts was not released.
