McCook Man Pleads No Contest in Assault on Officer

gavel-and-scaleMcCOOK, Neb. (AP) — A man in southwest Nebraska has pleaded no contest to attacking a police officer at a hospital.

33-year-old Wesley Nichols has changed his plea after originally stating he wasn’t guilty in June.

McCook police say Nichols fought with the officer at the Community Hospital in February after a nurse called 911. They say the officer was scratched and suffered injuries to her shoulder and hand.

A nurse injected Nichols with a sedative once the officer restrained him.

It’s unclear what started the incident.

Nichols faces up to five years in prison when he is sentenced in December.
