Nebraskan Pleads Not Guilty in Death of Baby Son

gavel-and-scaleATKINSON, Neb. (AP) — A 26-year-old northern Nebraska man has pleaded not guilty to intentional child abuse that authorities say caused the death of his son at an Omaha hospital.

Michael Schroeder, of Atkinson, remains in Holt County Jail on $1 million bail. He’s accused of abusing his 8-month-old son, Kalium Ebsens.

A court affidavit filed by an Atkinson officer says the boy was taken to West Holt Memorial Hospital the night of Oct. 26 after the boy became unresponsive. The infant then was flown to an Omaha hospital, where he died the morning of Oct. 29. The officer said Schroeder acknowledged bumping the boy’s head a couple of times.
