More Than 32K Nebraskans Select Health Plans in Marketplace

health_careLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A new report says more than 32,000 Nebraskans have selected health insurance plans for 2015 using the marketplace set up under the federal health care law.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said in a report Tuesday that 52 percent of the consumers were new to the marketplace, while 48 percent were re-enrolling.

A total of 32,213 people chose a coverage plan in Nebraska. Nationally, more than 4 million people selected plans for the first time or re-enrolled.

About 88 percent of Nebraskans who selected a plan in the first month of open enrollment qualified for federal assistance to lower their monthly premiums.

The new enrollment period began on Nov. 15 and will continue through Feb. 15. The deadline to receive coverage by Jan. 1 was Dec. 15.
