CROWLEY, Texas (AP) — Police in North Texas say a man fatally shot his girlfriend and killed two of her teenage daughters before turning the gun on himself.
Crowley Police Chief Luis Soler said Tuesday that investigators are still working to determine what led 36-year-old Samuel Morales to target the three at the home they shared south of Fort Worth.
Soler says 34-year-old Xiomara Leon was shot multiple times Sunday, as was her daughter, 18-year-old Linda Gonzalez. Thirteen-year-old Yasmine Zavala was strangled.
The bodies were found by officers responding to a report of a suicide attempt at the home.
Soler says another of Leon’s children, a 9-year-old boy, witnessed part of the attack and called a relative, who then called 911. The boy was not physically harmed.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Royals outfielder Alex Gordon has had surgery on his right wrist, and the four-time Gold Glove winner should be ready for the season opener against the White Sox on April 6.
The surgery, an extensor retinaculum repair, was performed by Dr. Bruce Toby at the University of Kansas Hospital on Tuesday. It is not yet clear when Gordon will be able to start in spring training.
Royals trainer Nick Kenney says in a statement that Gordon reached out to the team about some wrist discomfort last week. Gordon traveled to Kansas City and underwent testing, and the surgery was scheduled immediately so that he would be ready for the upcoming season.
Gordon dealt with pain in the same wrist midway through last season but did not miss significant playing time. He aggravated the injury during his winter training sessions.
CONOWINGO, Md. (AP) — Authorities say an 84-year-old Maryland man has been charged with fatally stabbing his older brother.
Cecil County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Michael Holmes says deputies found the body of 87-year-old George Carlton Richardson Sr. on Monday night.
Holmes says the body was in the backyard of the Conowingo home of Silas D. Richardson.
Deputies say Silas Richardson went to his brother’s home Monday in Neptune Township, New Jersey, and told the man’s girlfriend that George Richardson had died but he gave no details. Deputies then went to Silas’ home to check things out.
Holmes said the deceased brother had gone to the Maryland home to help out after the younger brother’s wife died last week. It was unclear when he arrived.
Silas Richardson is charged with first-degree murder.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Minimum wage earners will get a raise and spouses of severely disabled veterans could receive additional perks under new Nebraska laws.
The new year on Thursday will usher in 10 new state laws that were passed in the 2014 legislative session, plus the Initiative 425 minimum wage ballot measure that won approval from voters in November.
Nebraska’s minimum wage will increase to $8 an hour. The 75-cent increase is the first incremental step toward a $9-an-hour minimum wage, which takes effect in January 2016.
Other new laws will grant homestead exemptions to veterans who are considered 100 percent disabled, and a hiring preference to their spouses if they apply for jobs in state government.
Most laws passed this year have already gone into effect.
DENVER (AP) — A father whose four young sons could communicate only in grunts when authorities rescued them from a filthy Denver apartment has been sentenced to five years in prison.
Wayne Sperling was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to his second offense of child abuse.
Judge Eric Elliff didn’t think the 67-year-old had learned his lesson and says he hopes this sentence sends a message that children can’t be treated like pets or possessions.
Authorities say Sperling, his wife and the boys lived in an apartment filled with cat feces and flies.
His wife was previously sentenced to 90 days in jail and five years of probation.
Prosecutors say the boys are improving while living together in foster care, but they still struggle.

NEW YORK (AP) — Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh can play in Detroit’s playoff game after his one-game NFL suspension was reduced to a $70,000 fine.
Hearing officer Ted Cottrell heard Suh’s expedited appeal Tuesday and ruled that Suh can play Sunday at Dallas but must pay the fine.
Suh originally was suspended for stepping on Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ left leg twice last Sunday in a loss to Green Bay for the NFC North title. He stepped on Rodgers once with each foot, which violated unnecessary roughness rules, according to the league.
But Cottrell reduced the punishment.
Cottrell is jointly appointed by the NFL and the players’ union.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — New York Giants quarterbacks coach Danny Langsdorf is headed to Nebraska to become new coach Mike Riley’s offensive coordinator.
The Giants announced Tuesday that Langsdorf is leaving the team after one season to take the job with the Cornhuskers. Langsdorf was Riley’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Oregon State from 2005-13.
Riley earlier announced four assistant coaches he’s hired. Nebraska officials would not comment on Langsdorf’s hiring. Riley said last weekend that he wouldn’t announce the rest of his staff until next week.
The 42-year-old Langsdorf will replace Tim Beck as Nebraska’s offensive coordinator.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin said it was Langsdorf’s choice to leave. Coughlin said, “You don’t expect someone to be here for a year, but that’s his decision. Wish him well.”
