Shirleen A (Hill) Voris, age 76 of Grand Island / North Platte Nebraska. She passed away January 4, 2015, at Madonna Rehab in Lincoln Ne. Shirleen was born November 5, 1938 in Sterling Colorado to Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Hill. She graduated from North Platte High School and attended college in 1958 at Sul Ross State in Alpine, TX. She was crowned Buffalo Bill Rodeo Queen in 1959. At the age of 10, she learned trick riding, Roman riding and toured the United States with the White Horse Ranch, Naper NE. She was a member of the Flying Cimmeron’s, displaying their trick riding talents. In 1964 she moved to Las Vegas where she worked many years training animals on stage. In 1973 she moved back to North Platte and married Dr. Rod Voris. She began giving jumping lessons and taking students to Fox Hunts in Omaha. Shirleen was a well-known trick rider, Roman rider and a master equestrian. She loved entertaining crowds with her equestrian skills and her artwork in her spare time. In 2010 she moved to Grand Island with her daughter Tami and started Lucky Star Ranch horse hotel, named after her legendary horse Lucky Star. She was a member of Velvet Spurs and a highlight at the equestrian shows at Nebraskaland Days. Survivors include daughters, Tami (Dan) Mowers and Amy (Dwayne) Butterfield; son, Mark (Janet) Voris; grandchildren, Tierny Aksamit, Rhianna Smith, Dan (Jen) Voris and Nathan Voris; foster granddaughter, Carmen; and great grandchildren Mackenze and Dylan Aksamit. Preceding her in death were her parents, Bill and Doe Hill; sister, Deanna Hill; and her husband, Dr. Rod Voris. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 am Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Reverend James Novakowski as celebrant. Burial will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 9:30 am prior to the Mass. Visitation will be 9am to 8 pm Monday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Online condolences maybe shared at www.carpentermemorial.com
