NPCC Lady Knights Lose to Northeast

npcc-knightsIt was a tale of two halves as the North Platte Community College Lady Knights Basketball team was defeated by the Northeast Community College Lady Hawks Friday afternoon at McDonald-Belton Gymnasium 61-53.

The Lady Knights drop to 10 – 9 on the season, while the Lady Hawks improve to 18-3.

The Lady Knights jumped out to a 17-11 lead on a 3-pointer by T’Keyah Stapleton with 12:39 to play in the first half.  As the half progressed, the Lady Knights stretched out their lead to eight, 36-28 with less than a minute to play.

The Lady Knights led at halftime 36-30 after shooting 48.3 percent overall and four for seven from three point range.
In the second half, the Lady Hawks got back into the game by going on a 13-5 run and took the lead 43-41 with 13:18 left in the game.

The Lady Knights tied the game at 43, but the Lady Hawks retook the lead 46-43 on a 3-pointer by Brooke Bauer to put them ahead for good.

The Lady Hawks stretched their lead to 10 with seven minutes to play.

After shooting so well in the first half the shooting went cold.  The Lady Knights only connected on 5 shots out of 32 and 1 for 9 from 3-point range. The Lady Hawks shot 43.5 percent in the second half to lead them to victory.

The Lady Knights were led in scoring by Zulema Viesces, Aliyah Brown, and Alleyah Evans.  Each player scored 8 points each.  April Stull led the Lady Knights in rebounding with seven.

The Lady Hawks were led in scoring by Brooke Bauer with 16 points.  Yasmin Miller pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Hawks.

The Lady Knights take to the road for their next game as they travel to play McCook Community College on Wednesday, January 28.
