‘Nebraska 150’ License Plate Bill Advanced to Legislature

nebraska-150th-300-250LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska is one step closer to creating new license plates that would recognize the state’s 150th anniversary.

A bill to allow the “Nebraska 150 Sesquicentennial” plates was sent to the full Legislature on Tuesday after a committee vote.

The measure by Sen. Jim Smith of Papillion would direct the state to design a new license plate to commemorate the anniversary in 2017.

Motorists could apply for the new plates between Oct. 1, 2015, and Dec. 31, 2022. Those who choose the optional plate would pay a $70 annual fee, which would help generate money for anniversary events and the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles.
