Magdalena “Leni” Barner, age 90 formerly of Stapleton, passed away Thursday February 5, 2015.
Leni was born on January 23, 1925 in Oberursel, Germany to Johann and Bertha (Dietrich) Ruppel. She met her husband, Earl Dean Barner in Germany during WWII. They were married on December 23, 1952 in Frankfurt. They resided in Germany for a short time, then returned to the states, settling west of Stapleton on his family farm. They ran the farm until Earl Dean’s death in 2001. Leni moved to the High Rise Apartments in North Platte and made many friends. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society, then attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Platte after her move. She always loved her cats and kittens, and enjoyed needlepoint and crocheting, sharing much of her work with friends and family.
Leni is survived by several nieces and nephews in Germany; many family members on the Barner side; as well as numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Earl Dean; and her siblings in Germany.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Platte, or St. John’s Catholic Church in Stapleton. Online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. A Christian Wake Service will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday February 7, 2015, followed at 10:00 a.m. by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Reverend Michael Pampara as Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Loup Valley Cemetery in Stapleton. Visitation will be from noon until 9:00 p.m. Friday at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
