
Lincoln – University of Nebraska junior Shavon Shields was honored Thursday afternoon, as he was selected to the Capital One Academic All-District VII team.
It marked the second straight year that Shields, who carries a 3.73 GPA in biological sciences, was selected as a first-team all-district selection. In addition, Shields, who is a first-team academic All-Big Ten selection, is also a nominee for the NABC Allstate NABC Good Works Team
The Olathe, Kan., native is active in the classroom and on the court, as he ranks among the Big Ten leaders in scoring (16.0 ppg, sixth), rebounding (6.3 rpg, 10th) and free throw percentage (.840, 10th). Shields has seven 20-point games this season, including a career-high 35
points against Omaha. Shields became the 26th Husker to reach 1,000 career points in Tuesday’s win over Northwestern. He earned honorable-mention All-Big Ten pick as a sophomore in helping Nebraska to its first NCAA appearance in 16 seasons.
Shields will now be on the national ballot for Academic All-America honors, as Nebraska leads the nation with 314 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.
