Timeline In a Bottle Reveals Earlier Work on Nebraska Farmhouse

rural-nebraskaMcCOOK, Neb. (AP) — A timeline in a bottle reveals that a farmhouse being renovated in southwest Nebraska has been rebuilt twice before.

Shad Dewey’s 14-year-old daughter found the bottle as they were working on their home, which sits six miles northeast of McCook.

A rolled-up note inside it said: “This farm owned by Mr. and Mrs. Del Pate from 1917 — rebuilt in 1924 — burned by fire Sept. 27, 1932 — rebuilt and completed Jan. 1, 1933 by contractor Jake L. Klein, McCook, Nebraska.”

It was information Dewey had wondered about since buying the farmhouse in 1999.

The note from the past has spurred his family to create their own time capsule: a plastic pipe that they’ll fill with a written history of their renovations.
