About 125 Workers Losing Jobs with Closure of Nebraska Plant

land-o-frostWEST POINT, Neb. (AP) — About 125 workers have been told they’ll be losing their jobs when a meat plant closes in northeast Nebraska.

On Thursday Land O’ Frost told employees in West Point that production will continue into the second quarter of the year at the former Wimmer’s plant, giving them time to find other jobs. The Munster, Indiana-based company says it will provide outplacement services, and workers will be eligible to apply for jobs at other Land O’Frost locations.

The former Wimmer’s Meats company was founded in 1934 and was sold to Land O’ Frost three years ago.

Land O’Frost President and CEO David VanEekeren says the consolidation of production at other company plants will help Land O’Frost operate more competitively.
