SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — When Rockies closer LaTroy Hawkins was drafted in 1991, Colorado Gold Glove third baseman Nolan Arenado was two months old. A couple other teammates were in diapers, too.

But while the 42-year-old Hawkins may not relate to what he calls the “everybody gets a trophy” generation, he can still get them out.

Hawkins is preparing for his final season before retirement and is set to be the closer again for the Rockies. The right-hander is one of only 16 pitchers with 1,000 career appearances. He needs 36 more to move into the top 10.

Hawkins has pitched for 10 of the majors’ 30 teams and is set to be the oldest player in the majors this year.
