COLUMBUS, Neb. (AP) — Police in eastern Nebraska have arrested a 23-year-old man after he held officers at bay for hours outside a Columbus house.
23-year-old Stephen Knott was arrested around 4 p.m. Friday after a standoff that began about five hours earlier. He eventually walked out of the house and surrendered to police.
Police say Knott was alone in the house, but did not live there.
Police say they began searching for Knott after receiving reports that he had threatened and assaulted his ex-girlfriend while armed with a handgun. An arrest warrant was issued Friday charging him with eight counts, including making terroristic threats and weapons counts.
He remained in jail Saturday and could not be reached for comment.
