Salvation Army, UNO to Stock Omaha Food Pantry

salvation-armyOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — University of Nebraska at Omaha fraternity members will spend a night outside sleeping in cardboard boxes in an effort to help stock the Salvation Army food pantry in Nebraska’s largest city.

The annual food drive and homelessness awareness campaign called “Just Can It” begins April 6 and runs through April 10. Omaha Fire Department neighborhood stations and local Baker’s grocery stores will accept donations of nonperishable food during the drive.

Members of UNO’s Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity will sleep outdoors at Crossroads Mall and accept donations of money and nonperishable food.

Last year, the Just Can It drive collected more than 34,500 food items. This year, the goal is to collect 40,000 food items.
