The North Platte Community College Knights Softball team were swept in a double header by the Western Nebraska Community College Lady Cougars 2 – 1 and 10 – 0 at the Wayne Dowhower Memorial Softball Complex.
Game one turned out to be a pitcher’s duel between the Knights’ Bailey Oleson and the Lady Cougars’ Jordan Smith. Oleson pitched seven innings and allowed two runs on seven hits. She struck out two and walked one. Smith pitched seven innings allowed one run on four hits, striking out seven and walking one.
The Knights scored their only run of the evening when Brittney Odum hit her 10th home run of the season.
Oleson allowed the first two Lady Cougars to get on base, then held the Lady Cougars hitless for 5.2 innings when Macy Child singled. In the seventh inning the Lady Cougars tied the game up on a lead off home run by Whitney Fields. Jessica Hall doubled and scored the winning run on a single by Christian Bobion.
In game two it was all Lady Cougars.. Andy Hancock pitched five innings and only allowed two singles to Jessica Jarvis. Hancock struck out two.
The Lady Cougars scored six runs in their half of the third, highlighted by two-run home runs by Jessica Ball and Kinzie Sawyer.
The Lady Cougars scored three more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Shannon Lieber took the loss for the Knights. Lieber allowed 10 runs on 10 hits in five innings pitched.
The same two teams travel to Scottsbluff to play in a double header tomorrow April 19. Game times are at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. CDT
North Platte is now 17 – 23 on the season and Western Nebraska is 44 – 12.
