TECUMSEH, Neb. (AP) — A former teacher in southeast Nebraska has been sentenced to a week in jail for providing alcoholic beverages to minors.
A news release from the office of Johnson County Attorney Julie Smith says 42-year-old Steven Nolte, of Tecumseh, pleaded no contest on Wednesday and was convicted of two counts of procuring. Nolte was fined $500 in addition to the jail time.
Smith’s office says Nolte was a teacher for Johnson County Central Public Schools and a sports referee. The release says Nolte provided an alcoholic beverage to a 16-year-old student in May 2014 and to a 19-year-old former student this past January.
Smith’s office says Nolte has resigned from his teaching job and has stopped refereeing.
