LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The lawyer for a Lincoln teacher accused of having sex with one of his teenage students says his client will plead not guilty.
Twenty-two-year-old Jackson Hedrick is charged with two felonies: sexual assault of a minor and enticement by electronic means. Attorney Nancy Peterson commented on Hedrick’s intention on Wednesday.
Prosecutors say the first-year teacher at Irving Middle School exchanged sexually explicit texts with a 14-year-old girl and engaged in sexual activity with her. Peterson declined to comment on the specific accusations. Under Nebraska law, people 19 and over cannot have sexual contact with people under 16.
Lincoln school officials say Hedrick is no longer employed by the district.
