GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) — Volunteers spent part of the weekend planting flowers in pots to help prepare for the Nebraska State Fair this summer.
More than 100 pots were filled with soil and flowers on Saturday.
The fair’s facilities director Jamie Parr says without the flower planters the fairgrounds would be a sea of concrete.
Organizers keep adding more planters each year. Some are small enough to carry while a forklift is needed to place others.
Some of the volunteers will continue taking care of the planters all summer and throughout the fair.
A second planting day will be held on June 9 to fill in-ground flower beds.
