Nebraska Program Would Require Jobless to Have Plan to Find Work

workforceLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The governor wants to make Nebraskans who receive jobless benefits devise and stick to plans for finding work and getting off unemployment.

Gov. Pete Ricketts’ plan would require nearly all people who receive unemployment benefits to enroll in individualized re-employment plans with the Nebraska Department of Labor. And under the plan announced Tuesday by the governor’s office, people could lose their benefits if they don’t meet their plan goals.

Lorena Hernandez with the state Labor Department says job coaches would work with individuals and that people who lose eligibility could take steps to requalify.
