Earlyne L. Biggs, age 83, of North Platte, passed away July 26, 2015 at Great Plains Health. She was the last child born of Chris and Pauline Detlefsen in Arnold, NE on September 29, 1931. She attended grade school in Gandy and then the family moved to Stapleton, where she finished high school in 1949. After high school, Earlyne moved to North Platte and started working for Berg Typewriter Company, as a secretary and later worked for Northwestern Public Service Gas Company as a cashier and secretary. Earlyne then decided to attend North Platte Beauty College and worked as a hairdresser at the Pawnee Beauty Salon. She moved to California and married Donald S. Biggs at the Presbyterian Church in Las Vegas, NV on Sept. 9, 1960. She owned her own salon in California for a while, then worked for Merle Norman Cosmetics in downtown Los Angeles as an instructor, at the home office for many years, and also managed a couple studios in the Orange County area. She and Don moved around a lot, as Don was a contractor and built many homes, apartments and office buildings from Palm Springs, CA to Santa Barbara, CA. Earlyne loved to play cards, going to the beach, crafts, golf and spending time with her friends and family. They moved back to North Platte in 2001 and Don built the last apartment building for Sandridge Apartments. They joined the First United Methodist Church in North Platte, where she loved to play cards with the Prime Time Women of the Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2005; sisters, Ruby (Graceton) Philpot, Edna (Harry) Springmeyer, and Gloria Smith; brothers, Vern (Virginia) and Ray (Jeanie) Detlefsen; and a special niece, Karen McCan. She is survived by her nieces, Barb Detlefsen of Omaha, Lewellyn (Derb) Frey of Stapleton, Pat Yates of New Mexico and Lori Ferguson of Central City; nephews, Ron (Teresa) Detlefsen of Lake Maloney and Robbi (Shelley) Smith of Arnold and brother-in-law, Bobbie Smith of Arnold. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Douglas A. Delp officiating. Burial will be at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements.
