LCSO Begins Housing State Inmates

lincoln_countyjailOn July 23, the Lincoln County Detention Center began housing Nebraska Department of Corrections inmates.

Initially the Detention Center will house around ten Department of Correction inmates, but will house more if space allows. Only certain types of inmates will be housed at the Lincoln Detention Center.

All inmates who are released from the Department of Corrections will be transported back to Lincoln for release, not North Platte.

Officials say the highly trained staff at the Lincoln County Detention Center can manage these inmates with few problems.

“We all know that inmates in prison were once housed in County Jails,” the LCSO said in a news release. “All medical, legal and transportation costs will be paid for by the Nebraska Department of Corrections.

Projected revenue from this program will be $300,000.00 to $400,000.00 per year, depending on the number of inmates. This is on top of the approximately $100,000.00 the Detention Center generates for housing surrounding counties inmates.

All revenue will go back to the Lincoln County General Fund.
