MADISON, Neb. (AP) — A Nebraska tourism group is seeking a bird’s-eye view to promote a local county fair.

The local visitors’ bureau has contracted with a drone company to fly over the Madison County Fair. The drones will shoot footage for the Norfolk Area Visitors Bureau, which will post the videos on its website.

Kim Kwapnioski, the bureau’s director, says drone footage marks the next step for a website that offers virtual tours, pictures and videos of the region.

Kwapnioski says the bureau wants to extend the drone technology to places like Cowboy Trail and AquaVenture water park so viewers get a complete sense of Norfolk’s attractions.

Tulowitzki replaces Gordon on NL All-Star team

Troy TulowitzkiDENVER (AP) — Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki learned Saturday he was heading to the All-Star Game again as an injury replacement.

It’s his fifth appearance in the All-Star Game where he’ll join fellow Rockies infielders Nolan Arenado (third baseman) and D.J. LeMahieu (second baseman) at the mid-summer classic. The Rockies shortstop is replacing Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon, who dislocated left thumb on Saturday against the Reds.

Tulowitzki went hitless in four at-bats with a walk in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Atlanta, snapping his career-long 21-game hitting streak. But his walk helped the Rockies rally in the ninth for the win and extended to 37 games his career high streak in which he has reached base.

Gonzalez’s bloop single lifts Rockies past Braves 3-2

colorado-rockiesDENVER (AP) — Carlos Gonzalez hit a bases-loaded bloop single that dropped between charging center fielder Cameron Maybin and backpedaling shortstop Andrelton Simmons in the ninth inning Saturday, driving in the decisive run in the Colorado Rockies’ 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

Misfortune hit the Braves at the outset of the Rockies’ late rally. Reliever Jason Grilli (3-4) tumbled to the ground and suffered a lower left leg injury as he ran toward first to cover the bag when Drew Stubbs, the first batter he faced, hit a grounder that first baseman Chris Johnson ranged to his right to field.

Grilli appeared to take a bad step and crumpled to the ground, grabbing his lower left leg in pain. Stubbs was safe on what was ruled a hit.

Team trainers and manager Fredi Gonzalez ran on to the field to tend to Grilli, who remained on the ground for several minutes. He was helped to his feet, taken away on a cart for further treatment and replaced by David Aardsma.

Ballot Fight Over Fracking Could Be Shaping Up in Colorado

frackingDENVER (AP) — Environmentalists and the energy industry have fought decisive battles over fracking in New York, Oklahoma and Texas, but the outcome is still unclear in Colorado.

A ballot fight could be shaping up for Colorado’s 2016 election.

A task force convened by Gov. John Hickenlooper tried to find a compromise in the debate over how much the industry should be regulated, but it didn’t go far enough for fracking critics.

Karen Dike of Coloradans Against Fracking says the panel did little to address fracking’s potential health and environmental effects.

She won’t say if the group plans to put measures on the 2016 ballot, but she doesn’t rule it out.

Frank McNulty, a Republican former state lawmaker who sponsored a pro-industry ballot measure in 2014, expects opponents to turn to the voters.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A federal judge whose public online writings have served as a lightning rod for controversy says he’s shutting down his blog.

Senior U.S. District Judge Richard Kopf announced Thursday on his blog, “Hercules and the Umpire,” that he would no longer write for it.

Kopf has posted everything from videos of his grandkids to opinions on various court cases, telling Congress to “go to hell” in 2013 for allowing a brief federal government shutdown. His post last year suggesting that young women attorneys need to dress more conservatively in court drew a firestorm of criticism.

On Thursday, Kopf said he decided to stop publishing after learning that a majority of court employees at a retreat had indicated that the blog had become an embarrassment to the court.

HUBBARD, Neb. (AP) — A newly opened lake in northeast Nebraska is drawing anglers and recreationalists from the area, including across the Missouri River in Iowa.

The gates on the Danish Alps State Recreation Area near Hubbard opened Wednesday.

The 746-acre park includes RV and tent camping, equestrian camping facilities, day use areas, a walking and hiking trail and equestrian trail.

The centerpiece is 226-acre Kramper Lake, named after Vince Kramper, a Dakota City farmer and conservationist. The lake has been stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, black crappie, walleye and channel catfish.
