COLUMBUS, Neb. (AP) — A 20-year-old Columbus man who pleaded no contest to manslaughter for stabbing his grandmother to death last year has been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.
Chase Micklevitz was sentenced Friday in Platte County District Court to 18 to 20 years for the July 30, 2014 death of 58-year-old Deanna Micklevitz.
Chase Micklevitz was initially charged with second-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, but those charges were dropped as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.
Police say Micklevitz stabbed his grandmother four times with a kitchen knife. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.
