Buffalo Bill Ranch Celebrates 50 Years

NORTH PLATTE — Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park (SHP) located in North Platte will have a celebration on August 22, 2015 for the park’s 50th anniversary.

Visitors viewing William Cody’s mansion and Scout’s Rest Ranch barn will have an excellent experience with blacksmith demonstrations by a relative of Buffalo Bill Cody, living history events and character reenactments including Buffalo Bill himself during park hours 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Come learn about the history of Buffalo Bill and see the bison and new calf Taco.

At 3 p.m. at vintage baseball game will be played with 1864 rules, equipment and uniformed players from the era between the North Platte Buffalos and the Colorado Territorial All Stars.

A Dutch oven buffalo stew feed complete with homemade ice cream and cobbler dessert will be served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is available while the food lasts. Cost for the feed is $5 per person. Live music and campfire with S’mores will follow outside Scout’s Rest Ranch barn.

Visitors can camp at Buffalo Bill Ranch State Recreation Area (SRA) campgrounds and enjoy hiking, birdwatching, trail rides or a peaceful day on the water kayaking, tubing or canoeing.

A Nebraska Park Permit is required on all vehicles visiting the SHP and SRA. Daily permits are $5; annual permits are $25, both are available at the ranch. Admission price for the entire day of fun is $1 for children 3-12, $2 for anyone 13 and older, children under three are free.
