Man Behind Neligh Signs Wants to Unite Community

neligh-neNELIGH, Neb. (AP) — A Nebraska music instructor has paid for 100 signs that say, “We Support Neligh (NEE’-lee),” in an effort to promote the town in a more positive light and unite residents.

Nate Metschke, who teaches at the Neligh-Oakdale school district, says his campaign began before the annexation of several properties along Highway 275 finished.

The Neligh City Council voted last month to approve a third and final reading of annexation ordinances. An effort to recall the mayor and the entire council began in June after a second reading of the measures.

Metschke says his goal was to help residents feel positive about their community, after he was questioned by people from other towns about the situation in Neligh.

He says he has received great feedback from others about the signs.
