Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska football team completed another 2015 Fall Camp practice Saturday night, as the Huskers scrimmaged for just over two hours inside of Memorial Stadium on a beautiful night in Lincoln. The Huskers were split between offense and defense and ran approximately 100 plays during the scrimmage.

NU head coach Mike Riley met with media members following the scrimmage, and Riley mentioned that the scrimmage went well for both sides of the ball—but there is still room to grow.

“In general there was some nice plays—really the consistency in the run game I did not like,” Riley said. “We had some nice runs, and make some big plays but we were not consistent enough in the drives.”

On the defensive side of the ball, Coach Riley liked the defensive intensity, but mentioned that you cannot win games giving up big plays in the Big Ten.

“Defensively there was a lot of good defense but I think we gave up in general probably too many big plays,” Riley said. “One of the key elements of winning games is not giving up big plays and tackling.”

Riley mentioned that the tackling was not as good as the coaching staff wants it to be, but said that is why the Huskers scrimmage—to work on things like ‘live’ tackling.

One player that stood out Saturday night was true freshman wide receiver Stanley Morgan. The New Orleans product made several nice catches during the scrimmage, including three that went for touchdowns—something that did not surprise Riley.

“Stanley is a mature, strong and an unfazed guy on where he is right now,” he said. “For a young guy, he has fit in learning wise, which usually hampers most of them (freshmen).”

Riley added, “He appears beyond his years, and he is already very good physically and a playmaker. This was not a surprise to the team tonight, he has been doing this.”

On offense, Grand Island native Ryker Fyfe took the back-up quarterback snaps during Saturday night’s scrimmage, followed by AJ Bush and Zach Darlington. According to Riley, Fyfe really made some nice plays during the scrimmage.

“It is clear right now that tonight—tonight we played Ryker with the two’s. It is also clear to me that AJ did a nice job when he went in.”

The Nebraska football team will take Sunday off, and will return to the practice fields Monday morning. Check back at Huskers.com for full practice coverage.
