2 Construction Workers Injured on I-80 Near Paxton, Driver Arrested

The Nebraska State Patrol Troop D- North Platte is investigating a hit and run accident that injured two construction workers on Interstate 80 just west of Paxton.

Just before 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 19, the Nebraska State Patrol responded to reports of a hit and run accident involving two construction workers on eastbound I- 80, two miles west of Paxton, in Keith County. The workers were struck by a vehicle described as a blue Saturn.

Approximately 10 minutes later, a trooper stopped a vehicle matching the description just west of the North Platte exit on eastbound I-80. The vehicle had damage to its right front.

The 18-year old male driver of the vehicle, Joe Marcos O’Connor Zubaite, of Hesperus, Colo., was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail on charges of Reckless Driving and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.

The two construction workers, who names are not being released at this time, were transported to Great Plains Health in North Platte, with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation into the incident continues.
