Dennis H. Dowhower, 91, of North Platte, passed away August 19, 2015 at Centennial Park Retirement Village. He was born March 5, 1924 to Elmer and Alice (Stoddard) Dowhower at North Platte. He graduated from North Platte High School with the class of “42” and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Dennis served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was united in marriage to Barbara Tomlinson. He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad as an electrician for over 32 years. He married Beverly (Meyers) Hilton in 1988. Dennis enjoyed playing tennis, golfing and cycling. He made many trips on his motorcycle and camping. He was a member of Freedom From Religion. Dennis is survived by his wife, Beverly of North Platte; two sons, Kelly (Stella) Dowhower of Omaha and Tracy Dowhower of North Platte; a daughter, Denise (Roy) Hunter of Omaha; two brothers, Lloyd Dowhower of North Platte and Virgil Dowhower of Oregon; a sister, Florence Ziarko of New York; seven grandchildren, Robyn, Carlos, Rhea, Lindsey, Britni, Dustin and Kasia; and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barbara; brothers, Donald, Raymond and Albert; and a sister, Violet. Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com. Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Private family inurnment will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at a later date.
