LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Firefighters say two dogs have been killed in a Lincoln house fire.
The fire began Friday afternoon when debris or clothing fell into an uncovered opening in a water heater in the home’s basement. The debris caught then caught fire.
Fire officials say the residents weren’t home at the time of the fire, which was extinguished in about 10 minutes.
Fire Inspector Ken Hilger says the fire was mostly contained to the basement and the water heater’s vicinity. He estimated structural damage to the house at $15,000 and content loss at about $1,000.
