It was a fantastic weekend for members of the Mid-Plains Community College Rodeo Team. They finished second as a team during the 2015 Rail Town U.S.A. College Rodeo, Sept. 18-19 in North Platte.
Individually, Shane Weber, of Burwell, won the saddle bronc riding, and Duell Puttergill, of Tryon, finished third in the event.
Riley Weehler, of Mount Ayr, Iowa, won the tie-down roping, and Rowdy Moon, of Sargent, placed second in the bareback riding.
Ethan Lesiak, of Columbus, continued his top scoring streak – riding a bull to a second place finish. Jett Peterson, of Parade, S.D., was right behind him, coming in third.
Cord Hesseltine, from Halsey, took fourth in the steer wrestling, while Ty Wriedt, of Norfolk, placed fifth and Kris Rasmussen, of Riverdale, ended up ninth.
In the team roping, Kaile Jacobson, of Haiku, Hawaii, and Kanoa Awai-Dickson, of Kula, Hawaii finished seventh. Rhett O’Connor, of Paxton, and Cam O’Connor, of Keystone, were eighth.
“I’m super happy with the results,” said Dustin Elliott, MPCC Rodeo Team rough stock coach. “It’s the best finish we’ve ever had, and to do it in front of our home crowd makes it that much better.”
He’s not satisfied with stopping there, however.
“I know this best finish of second won’t last long,” said Elliott. “There are team championships in the very near future. I feel we’re finally making strides as a whole team.”
Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa, will host the next rodeo Oct. 1-2.
