Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska football team completed another practice in preparation for its Saturday game against Southern Mississippi on Tuesday. The Huskers were split into two groups—offense and defense during practice, as thunderstorms forced the offense inside Cook Pavilion, while the defense practiced inside the Hawks Championship Center.
Nebraska offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf spoke to the media following practice, mentioning that the team has made it a point of emphasis to start practice off fast, in the hopes it can cure some of the Huskers early game slow starts.
“Some of the early drops got us out of rhythm, we stalled some drives. I think we have to keep preparing to start the game better,” Langsdorf said. “I thought our guys had a great week, we were ready to go but we did not make enough plays early to get on track.”
Langsdorf added, “We have had a good emphasis on starting practice fast, and getting ourselves ready to play. I think that has been the emphasis this week.”
According to Langsdorf, the wide receiver group as a whole did OK Saturday against Miami despite the slow start. Langsdorf mentioned it was really good to see the guys perform so well late in the game against the Hurricanes.
“I think early on it wasn’t good, they made some great plays late—they kept playing and competing which is good to see,” Langsdorf said. “We have to finish, I think we can carry that last quarter and have some confidence with how we moved the ball later in the game. That should take us through the next week.”
Southern Mississippi poses a threat to the Huskers on defense, as Langsdorf mentioned that NU is preparing for a speedy Golden Eagle defense on Saturday.
“They have a real quick front four, they have got two rush ends that are excellent, not as big as some of the teams we will play or have faced already but they have good speed off both edges,” he said. “I think their back end is pretty good, they have three guys back there– they have looked sharp.”
The Nebraska football team will be back on the practice fields on Wednesday, as they continue to prepare for their Saturday game against Southern Mississippi. Kickoff between NU and USM is set for 11a.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPN NEWS.
