The North Platte Community College broke their seven match losing streak by defeating the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II number 14 team, the Northeast Community College Lady Hawks in five sets Thursday night at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium, 25-18, 16-25, 29-27, 13-25 and 15-8.

The match was designated “Pink Out Night” to bring awareness to breast cancer.

The first set started out with Northeast having a 14-7 lead.  The Lady Knights finished off the first set by going on an 18-4 run to win 25-18.  Megan Chintala served the last nine points.

In the second set the Lady Hawks held the Lady Knights to only four earned service points in the set.

In set three, it started looking like it was going to be all Northeast when they led 6-1.  The Lady Knights came back to cut the lead to one 14-13.  The remainder of the set went back and forth and was tied at 25.  Valerie Most had a kill for set point to give the Lady Knights the 29-27 set win.

The momentum went back to Northeast in the fourth set.  They led 9-4 early on and didn’t look back to take set four.

In the tie-breaking set five, the Lady Knights led 8-4 and held on to take the set and the match 3-2 on a block by Jessica Lovitt to seal the win.

The Lady Knights improve their record to 8-15.  Northeast was the sixth rated opponent in the last seven games including three of the top four teams in the country.

North Platte was led in kills by Most with 14.  MaKenna Ketter added 12 kills.  The Lady Knights had two solo blocks, one each by Most and Lovitt.  North Platte also had 16 assist blocks.  Samantha Morgan led with six total blocks.  Ketter added six and Lovitt added three.  Most also had 23 defensive digs and Chintala added 18.  Chintala also had 15 service points and Aryn Meisinger added nine.

The Lady Knights take to the road to play McCook Community College on Monday, October 5 and then return home to play Divison II foe Southeast Community College on October 7.
