The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team defeated the McCook Community College Lady Indians in five sets 25-20, 25-22, 28-30, 17-25, 15-9, here on Monday night.
The Lady Knights in the first set jumped out to an early lead and led throughout the first set, eventually winning the set 25-20.
In the second set, the two teams battled throughout the match and were tied at 16. At that point, the Lady Knights went on a 4-0 run to lead 20-16. The Lady Knights held off the Lady Indians to take the set 25-22.
The Lady Indians started out the third set with a 7-3 lead and led 15-9 when the Lady Knights rallied to tie the set at 15. The teams went back and forth before the Lady Indians were able to win the third set 30-28.
By winning the third set, it turned the momentum of the match to the Lady Indians favor. The McCook student body began to get into the match. The Lady Indians started out with a 14-10 lead. The Lady Indians went on a 6-1 run to put the score at 20-11. The Lady Indians won the fourth set to tie the match up with the score 25-17.
In the fifth set, the Lady Knights started out strong and led 8-4 at the switch. The Lady Indians cut the lead to one (10-9). The Lady Knights finished off the match with six straight points behind the serving of Shelby Wolever.
The Lady Knights improve to 9-15 on the season and 2-2 in Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference play. They were led by Valerie Most with 22 kills. MaKenna Ketter added 16 kills. Josie Palmer and Jessica Lovitt each added eight. Megan Chintala had 33 defensive digs and Most had 31 to lead the Lady Knights. Samantha Morgan had two solo and six assisted stuff blocks in the match.
The Lady Indians fall to 2- 27 on the season.
The Lady Knights are back in action on Wednesday, October 7 when they play Southeast Community College in a crucial Region IX Division II matchup.
The match is “Mentoring Night”. All mentors and mentees will be admitted into the match free. Also, all high school volleyball players who wear their volleyball jerseys will also be admitted free into the game.
